In Potomac Village and the surrounding area, there are various options of fun things to do outside! Whether you are looking to dine out, catch some sun, or go for a hike, there is a place for you!
The Billy Goat Trail
One of the most popular destinations in the Potomac area is the canal a Great Falls, accessible from both River and Falls road. A great place to bike, hike, and kayak, weekends are normally very busy on the path. Take a walk with your family, including your dog! With miles of trail and several off-trail footpaths available, you can’t go wrong. Many families come from all over Maryland and D.C. to walk the trails and, of course, stop by Sprinkles for an ice cream cone afterwards!
Olmstead Island
On the canal, you can climb the rocks at Olmstead Island. This activity is best suited for hikers, climbers, or very athletic folks. A fun place to camp out, Olmstead Island is a secluded area to relax and enjoy the nice weather. You’ll definitely get a good workout, in addition to gorgeous views!
Cabin John Park
A few miles northeast of Potomac Village, Cabin John Park is a great place for families with young kids to enjoy the swings, slides, and train ride! With over 8 miles of natural trail to walk or bike on, everyone can enjoy this space. Visit Porky the Litter Eater for a quick lesson on sustainability and a fun experience for your little ones!
Greenbriar Park
If you’re looking for a smaller, more local activity, Greenbriar Park is located a few miles down River Road from Potomac Village. A smaller space, it has a modern swing set with slides, teeter-totters, and a shaded pavilion with tables for a snack or lunch. Greenbriar also has a soccer field, so you can bring your ball and enjoy a game!
